Quiet Man

words are liars
by their very nature.
tin cans clanging
on a honeymoon string

trying to sing.

it’s a lot of noise
to untie later.

You and me
more often
check in,
leave the rattle behind,
unpack our breath,
kick conversation off
like a pair of tight
shoes.

Sing our particular
truth
with fingers and hips.
the melody being
what hovers
in-between
your eyes and mine.

I like how you look
at me
when
so often
you don’t have
the words.

I love it!

"words are liars

That reminds me of one of my favorite jokes: "Hello," s/he lied.

Thank you, Aleida. I wish I could introduce you to my "good lawyer"...you'd be inspired, I think.

Wow, LJ, wow--awesome metaphor! I'm not a big fan of poetry, but this one is the exception. Really eloquent!

Jeez, Jess. Thank you. Seriously. I always post poetry with the sinking feeling that I'm oversharing.
I appreciate the comment a lot.
