Wherein she commits to a relationship

I suppose this is the beginning of the decline. Soon it will be stewed prunes for breakfast and sensible shoes. I've taken to sitting in the sun - damn the wrinkles, let 'em come. And now this...a cat and I have adopted each other.
Meet Smoke, my new roommate.

Welcome to the wonderful Sisterhood of the Crazy Cat Ladies. You have been inducted into our ranks because you blogged about your cat. Keep it up... we need to know about Smoke's personality.

Cats are better than men because:

Cats keep their opinions to themselves.

Cats never claim they know how to fix larger appliances.

One good purr can be worth a thousand words. Cats can't show love without meaning it. "Meow" is never a lie.

Cats are able to keep the romance alive.

Cats are never late for dinner and purrs when you serve it.

Cats lick their own private parts.

No matter what your cat drags into your house, you don't have to pretend you like it.

If you ask enough times, a cat may actually listen to you.

It's okay if a cat rubs up against your best friend.

If a cat jumps into your lap, a little light petting will satisfy him.

A cat matures as it grows older.

Back hair on cats is cute.

It is legal in all states to neuter a cat.

Cats comfort you when you are sick.

When a cat sleeps all day it's natural, not annoying.

To buy a fancy dinner for a cat only costs $1.

The only thing a cat expects you to "put out" is food, water,
and a clean litter box.

When a cat goes to the toilet he tries not to leave a trace.

Cats still love you even when your perm goes wrong.

Cats love to see you come home from shopping with lots of bags!

Meeeeeeeow :)

How did Smoke find you?

KD & I have snickered over the funnier bits in private, like the politically correct people we are.

Herhimnbryn - His owner died. She had four cats and no one took him. I saw him and decided he looked like my cat. He was just existing in a half-packed basement apartment, in a place where no one hated him, but no one liked him, or paid attention either - so (within about 20 minutes in which rubbery cat treats and wet food were offered) he decided I was ok with him. He is very silent and polite and affectionate - except for the hour between one and two a.m., during which time he belts out heartfelt arias as he roams the house. I hope that his musical career is simply anxiety over spending the first night in a new place. He's a nice little guy other than the singing thing.

Does he like catnip?

Approximately two thirds of cats are susceptible to the effects of catnip, as the phenomenon is hereditary.

Taco Kitty (my cat) is unaffected by catnip.

Does he like paper bags? Superballs? Milk jug rings? Crumpled paper balls? Details please

And so it begins... LJ's place - the Sprytown cat house. ;)

No, it's the third cat that quantifies you as a . .

It was only a matter of time, LJ...

Only teasing. Cats can make the best of friends - quiet, attentive, but aloof enough to keep you wondering what on earth they're thinking. It's always good to have a touch of mystery in your relatonships.

Aw.

Well, we all know how I feel about having a feline home animus.

beadbabe49 said...

whew...we're both safe, if joeinvegas is right....you're two cats away and I'm one from being the crazy cat lady in the neighborhood...
(although I'd have more if chuck would let me!)
I bet the early morning arias will end when he begins to feel at home...poor guy, he's probably still mourning the loss of both his person and his other cat companions...

Welcome to the club. Enjoy.

MD - Better than "the living box" which is what I refer to it as sometimes.
Joeinvegas - Do I have to have three?
Maybe I could just dot my cheeks with circles of rouge and wear baggy stockings to qualify. Less litter to clean that way.
Mella - they teach you things. That bed making is high sport. That curtains blocking access to ledges must never be closed. That June bugs make a nice snack.
Zhoen - If the animus was always this easy to get along with I could go for a sanity title!
BB - Night one: arias. Night two: one meow. Night three and subsequent nights: Stretched out beside me the whole night.(One must keep watch because when the house monkey awakes, she serves the much loved pate).
MM, Thank you. I am. It's as if he's always been here.

given the choice, I would much rather spend time with cats than people.

I understand that, Edvard.

that's cool of you, to take in Smoke. He'll probably be an uber-cool companion. Blessings on you & your house!

LJ said...

Hi Phlegmy! It was kind of him to agree to move in. You know how cats are...

lj - I had to go check in the other room. Because I have a cat who adopted us who looks just like your Smoke. The BRD wanted to name him Shadow but I had one such cat named Shadow many years ago. So I named this one: Smoke!

LJ said...

Catalyst that is too weird. I had the strangest compulsion to call him shadow...for the way we follows me, room to room. He's this strange little alien being with enormous eyes and an almost expressionless face. But he has the biggest purr. That's got his rations increased by 100% within a week. In spite of the fact that if I keep feeding him, I might well end up calling him "Blob."

Cats make me nervous ever since an ex of mine brought back a kitten to live with us one day. Its favourite games were 'hide under the sofa and hamstring people when they least expect it', and 'run hell for leather the length of the hallway, take a flying leap and attach yourself to someone's bare legs by your claws'. He drank nigh on a tray full of photography revealing fluid and jumped out of a third storey window - survived both times!! That cat had the devil it, I swear! Scared the hell out of me!

Thanks for the comment by the way, sorry it's been so long - it's due to a rubbish combination of internet issues and dissertation workload! I'll get back into it after the 20th though!

Kate - I adopted a feral kitten at one point - and it wasn't old enough to be socialized with other cats, nor had it bonded with humans. This cat bit. And I don't mean little play bites. The kitten stage can be really fun and funny - but it can also be pretty destructive.
My cat is 7. A more sensible, dignified age - and he's no problem at all.
Looking forward to your next entry!

Hurray! What a little sweetie Smoke is... I wish I had one, but it'd die of neglect. Only my aloe vera plant can cope with several weeks of absence, just about.

phlegmfatale said...

Well, I do know cats pick YOU, and not vice-versa, and in that way, it sounds like the most spiritual pet relationship, to me. But you've been silent these past weeks. Honeymooning, no doubt!

mm said...

Meow from mine to yours. Hope all is well?

Ugh a cat...Now I wonder if I will ever visit you. I guess they only live about 15 years. I can wait. BWA HA HA HA!!!!

Belatedly - Ariel, I'm a hermit. A cat couldn't ask for someone who was around more.
Phlegmy..I kind of kidnapped him. He didn't know me from a hole in the ground. But he'd been neglected enough to like the idea of having his own place, regular meals, and a maid-servant.
MM - I now crow "GOOD boy" if he poops and anxiously check the litter for evidence of good digestion in the morning. Before my coffee. Is that sad?
D - I had one that made 22. Yep. So you're obviously prepared to wait for those crocheted toilet roll cozies for your new place, huh?

How ya going?

Well, I'm glad you are enjoying each other. Even a bad-ass bruiser cat enjoys being doted on once in a while.

My kitty brushing against my feet: what a super SOLE-mate...and low-maintenance, as well!
